The Church of the Nazarene is an international evangelical denomination rooted in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, working passionately in over 165 world areas; they are a vibrant community of over 2.7 million members in almost 31,000 churches.
In the United Kingdom, their presence is structured into two districts: North and South, with the North District incorporating local church fellowships in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the North of England.
Individual churches but collectively supported
Each church is responsible for the life of the local congregation and its activities as an independent charity. Through the district, their aim is to support, develop and encourage and they have been doing that through a central payroll service for many years. That process was no longer fit for purpose and could not respond to the changing needs of local churches. Their ambition was to secure a high quality, online and flexible payroll and pension solution. That’s when they approached Stewardship.
The Stewardship team has supported and guided us from the start to the finish of this process. The additional services which Stewardship can provide a client throughout the process have been invaluable and very reassuring.

An effective payroll system for Pastors
It is now approaching the first anniversary of working with Stewardship. The support and guidance they have experienced during the transition has continued. They are now able to provide up to date, secure and online information on payroll to all of their individual churches and to assure treasurers and Pastors that changes to pay will be processed on time and accurately.
The automation of individual payments, PAYE and pensions has removed a huge administrative burden each month; they can now have a holiday any time of the year without having to take their laptops with them.

Mark Partridge
Mark leads the Payroll Bureau Team at Stewardship, serving over 750 different Churches and Christian Charites with the administration of their payrolls. Mark has been at Stewardship since 2010 after working in banking for the previous 22 years.
Mark lives in a village just outside Colchester, and is a worship and youth leader at his local Church. His 3 children under 11 keep him on his toes, and he is a keen follower of Ipswich Town Football Club.
‘I have always loved working with numbers, and the last 10 years has been really exciting in supporting Church and Charities with their payroll needs. I love helping volunteer treasurers and can help lighten the load of the increasing administration burden churches are now facing.’
