On Monday the 6th of February two powerful earthquakes struck Southern Turkey near the Northern Syrian border. The initial quake had a magnitude of 7.8, followed by a 7.5 magnitude quake 9 hours later and a series of aftershocks. Sadly, many people have lost their lives or been injured, but it is not too late to help. There are a number of Stewardship registered charities working on the front line delivering help and support to those who need it most.
Christian Aid
Christian Aid is working with partners in Northwest Syria to provide winter kits to people seeking shelter. Every prayer, every gift, every action brings hope to people hit by disaster.
World Vision
World Vision are helping people get access to temporary shelters, heaters, clean water, and critically needed healthcare. They're also providing care for children whose families aren’t able to be in the midst of this crisis.
Medair
Medair brings emergency relief and rehabilitation to over two million people a year in some of the most vulnerable countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. They respond to natural disasters, conflicts that uproot communities, and crises such as drought, disease or earthquakes.
Samaritan's Purse
Right now Samaritan's Purse has staff on the ground and are preparing to deploy a 52-bed Emergency Field Hospital and at least 75 staff to address the immediate medical needs of families impacted by the devastation. They will also be airlifting critically needed items into Turkey to help people with the long road to recovery. Please join us in praying for all those affected and for their teams and partners as we look to support in this difficult time.
Samara's Aid Appeal
Samara's Aid Appeal provides humanitarian and medical aid, and runs development projects in the Middle East, in particular Syria.
Care & Relief for the Young
CRY are connected to families that have been directly impacted by the devastating consequences of the earthquake that occurred on 06/02/23.
Due to safety reasons, they cannot disclose more information, however, their partners on the ground can provide urgent aid and supplies to those who have lost their homes. Any funds raised will help them provide food, and cover medical needs, as well as other basic needs.
Disasters Emergency Committee
The DEC are launching an emergency Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal. DEC member charities urgently need support to help provide food, heaters, blankets, medical care, clean drinking water and shelter.
Help the Persecuted
Focusing on the underserved and hard-to-reach areas of Syria. Help the Persecuted are meeting the urgent and growing needs of earthquake victims by:
‣ Traveling to Aleppo and other affected areas in Syria, assessing needs
‣ Bolstering their local church partners with Lightning Funds, enabling them to provide immediate help in their communities
‣ Providing food, water, shelter, and heat to those on the streets as winter storms hit
‣ Forming a pastoral care team focused on caring for grieving and traumatized believers and sharing the Gospel with others
Tearfund
As part of the Disasters Emergency Committee – a group of humanitarian agencies – Tearfund has launched an emergency appeal. Their church partner in Syria is providing vital supplies such as warm clothing, nourishing food and hygiene essentials.
Embrace the Middle East
Embrace has established partners working on the ground in northwest Syria, who are already responding to the crisis. The situation is desperate, with freezing conditions and torrential rain hampering rescue efforts. Please support their Emergency Earthquake Appeal so their partners can get vital aid and immediate support (including blankets, mattresses, medicines, cooking utensils, food parcels, water) to those affected by the devastating earthquakes.
Oxfam
Oxfam, together with local partner organisations and their partners across the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), need your support to reach people affected by the earthquakes in Türkiye (Turkey) and Syria. This is an urgent appeal for assistance.
Operation Mobilisation
OM's local partners are already distributing food and water packs, infant formula, essential hygiene packs and non-food items such as blankets to an estimated 6,000 families who had so little and have now lost everything.
They are rapidly evaluating where more help is needed. Through established connections and roots in these communities, OM’s partners are able to assess longer term needs in the area and respond accordingly. This approach enables us to engage deeply with people.
Support Operation Mobilisation
Frontiers
Frontiers has crisis response capabilities that enable them to rapidly deliver support, expertise, and funds to those on the ground. Local teams are reaching out to their communities to help with rescue operations and support those who have lost everything to the disaster. This includes areas expected to receive refugees from the disaster.
Life Center: Earthquake Appeal
The team at the Life Center have started an initiative with churches in Syria to distribute aid to those whose lives have been devastated by the earthquake. The team will make 2-3 trips each month to cities in Syria such as Jabla, where, working with local Christians, aid will be distributed at the local shelters.
