Queen Elizabeth II: The Invaluable Patron of Christian Charities

Queen Elizabeth II held multiple titles during her reign. The one that epitomised the heart of her Christian belief was ‘Defender of the Faith’. She breathed life into the role and consistently shared the love of Jesus through her words and actions. One vital aspect of this work was her role as patron of a wide and diverse group of Christian organisations. We are proud to be partners with many of them and we want to continue championing their causes, like Queen Elizabeth did, as they seek to share the gospel with others.

Christian Charities supported by the Queen

Bible Society

Working in over 200 countries, the Bible Society is on a mission to make the Bible available and understood around the world. This is because they believe that when people engage with the Scriptures lives can be changed, for good.

Paul Williams, Bible Society's CEO, recently remarked:

“With the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we have lost not only a remarkable public servant, but the presence of a much loved and respected Christian leader who has been taking us through a remarkable period of change in our society. We cannot understand the Queen without reference to her Christian faith. Her faith took her through the highs, and importantly the lows, of her life. Because of that she was able to be a stable and enduring presence in our national life.”

Church Pastoral Aid Society (CPAS)

CPAS is an Anglican evangelical mission agency who believe that the message of the gospel is relevant to all people. They assist local church ministries in seeing men, women, young people and children come to faith in Christ.

Speaking of the Queen recently CPAS said:

“We were profoundly sad to hear of the death of Her Majesty the Queen, our Patron, who dedicated her faith-filled life to the service of her country. She embodied so many of the things that are precious to CPAS, as a Christian charity, and we will miss having her as a figurehead."

Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken (Psalm 62:5-6, NIV).

Speaking of the Queen recently SASRA said:

"Queen Elizabeth II graciously granted us much encouragement to serve our armed servicemen and women pastorally and spiritually. She has left behind her the abiding eloquence of a Christian Life. We pray that this legacy will continue to inspire each of us personally in our resolve to uphold SASRA’s unique “Sovereign Service.”

Help continue the work the Queen started

The Queen was instrumental in raising awareness of the vital work of many Christian charities in the UK. She recognised the value of Christian organisations and the positive impact they can have upon the nation over which she reigned. Each one of them represents a distinct opportunity to share the good news of Jesus with those around them. The six we have highlighted above are partners with Stewardship and they would greatly benefit from your prayers and support during this time. Charities like these especially value regular gifts which allow their ministries to become more effective.

In addition to the ones mentioned here, there are many more charities that you can support to help people in the UK receive the love of Jesus. You can search for them on our website and use a Stewardship Giving Account to strategically channel your money to where it is needed the most.
