This September, Stewardship is proud to be joining forces with hundreds of charities, professional advisers and partners across the UK to celebrate Remember A Charity Week.

Legacies are a vital source of income to UK charities, generating almost £4 billion for good causes each year. As a Charity Champion, we will be raising awareness of the option of giving to charity from your will, alongside gifts for family and friends. This form of charitable giving is on the rise¹ and funding vital services across the country – both now and for future generations. Within the current economic climate, charitable gifts in wills really have become crucial for thousands of charities and community organisations.

Creating your legacy with Stewardship

It is easier than you might think to include your favourite charity in your will, and even a small gift can help make a difference. You can create your legacy with us in three easy steps: decide how much you want to give, ask your solicitor to add a gift to your Stewardship account in your will, and then complete our Expression of Wishes form so we can make sure we have everything we need to honour your requests. You can update your wishes at any time without having to involve your solicitor.

Charitable legacies are free of inheritance tax. In addition, if you leave at least 10% of your estate to charity, the rest of your estate will benefit from a reduced inheritance tax (IHT) rate of 36% rather than 40%. Our briefing paper on legacy giving covers all the considerations involved - Biblical, ethical, legal and tax - and takes you through the process and the advantages of leaving a legacy to Stewardship

Remember A Charity Week

Remember A Charity Week (11-17 September 2023) is an annual celebration of the power and impact of legacy giving. Throughout the week, partners, solicitors, will-writers, charities and others will be championing the legacy message, encouraging people across the country to help build a brighter future by leaving a gift in their will.

Our legacy and estate giving service

We will partner with you to help you plan your legacy and estate giving and engage wider family members in the process as appropriate.
