A place of pilgrimage since the tenth century, prayer, worship and the welcome of visitors (around half a million each year) are the heart of what we do. But cathedral life is incredibly diverse.

We also care for one of the world's architectural treasures, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986, providing apprenticeships in heritage skills. We maintain part of the River Wear, improving the biodiversity of Durham's natural spaces. And we bring people together to make a difference in the world.

Everything we do today aims to protect and preserve a unique story and way of life for future generations. And every gift helps to achieve this ambition.
