Inspired by our saints, Cuthbert and Bede, the mission of Durham Cathedral is to offer everyone the opportunity to encounter God and know God’s love in Jesus Christ.

Durham Cathedral has been a place of pilgrimage since the tenth century. Prayer, worship, and the welcome of visitors are the heart of what we do, but cathedral life is incredibly diverse.

We also care for some of the world's finest medieval buildings and collections; we celebrate and seek to empower local communities; we maintain part of the River Wear and its woodland; and we bring people together to make a difference in the world.
