LAMB Health (charity 1101217) takes its name from the LAMB Project, an integrated health and community development project in rural North-West Bangladesh. Our core task is to support the hospital Poor Fund, enabling the poorest to receive subsidised treatment and care.
Each patient who is unable to pay the hospital bill is assessed by a social worker to see how much they can reasonably be expected to pay. Many in this category are family members of landless day labourers for whom life is lived at the margins. They have no means to get treatment elsewhere.
LAMB’s emphasis is to provide access to affordable healthcare for the poorest women and children. 6,771 patients received help with costs in 2022 (30% of in-patients and 6% of out-patients.)
Trustees who have previously lived and worked at LAMB continue to visit the project. They are currently involved in several areas of work, including consultancy to staff providing disability support to children and work with the women's health team.
