Stuart's Swim The Night 12 Mile Swimming challenge for Eden's Project
Part of marking his 20th year working at Eden's Youth Centre
Closing date: 31 December 2024
Story
Stuart, Eden’s youth worker since 2003, is taking on his biggest challenge to date. At Hampton Open Air Pool on Saturday 17th June at 9pm, Stuart will compete in the ‘Swim The Night’ ultra challenge. Each and every hour, for 12 consecutive hours, he’ll swim 1 mile, the 12 miles of total swimming is almost 2x Olympic Swimming Marathons (772 lengths of a standard 25m swimming pool) and finish at 9am on Sunday morning.
Stuart says: “Having drifted into obesity [in 2019] I found swimming was a way to lift my head above the water of a chronic health condition like RLS. With the support and encouragement of others I am achieving my health goals. At Eden’s we help support young people’s wellbeing and encourage them to live their best life. We don’t want young people to have to just tread-water but instead have the support they need to swim against the tide and be equipped to face life’s challenges and fulfil their true potential. This is why fundraising for Eden’s is so important to me”.
