Amberley Walk for Water
Closing date: 23 May 2024
Story
We are raising funds for a community water and sanitation project at Kazuru. Kazuru consists of a community of about 1,400 people from 4 villages, which include 2 schools, 2 churches and a health centre. In common with many communities in Uganda the present water supply is inadequate and inaccessible, and sanitation facilities are likewise poorly constructed and overloaded.
Currently water is collected from a distant dilapidated spring, or even a polluted stream.
Kazuru is located in remote part of Kanungu District, which coincides with the Diocese of Kinkiizi, in the SW of Uganda, close to the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The community live very close to the Impenetrable Forest, known locally as Bwindi. A number of the beneficiaries to the project are those from the Batwa tribe, previously known as Pygmies, who traditionally lived as hunter gatherers within the Impenetrable Forest, but now are being assisted to farm the land.
