UK Christians are preparing to unite this November for the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church 2025.

Observed annually on the first Sunday of November, this global event calls attention to the millions of believers who face discrimination, imprisonment and violence because of their faith.

‘Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.’  Hebrews 13:3

According to Open Doors, a charity campaigning for and supporting persecuted Christians, over 380 million Christians face high levels of persecution and discrimination – that’s one in seven believers worldwide.

Release International has prepared a set of resources to support churches to mark the occasional with their congregations, including presentations, talk outlines, testimonies and a video.

Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) is also involved in the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church 2025, with a particular emphasis on the human rights abuses

In person event

In a new development for 2025, Open Doors are hosting an all-day prayer vigil in Witney, Oxfordshire on Saturday 15 November.

You can join for as much of the day as you are able, and there is an online element in the evening if you are unable to travel.

Get involved

Please consider how you might be able to get involved in the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church 2025, both personally or as a church.

  • Use the resources provided by the organisations mentioned above to raise awareness in your church of the desperate situation that many brothers and sisters around the world are in
  • Use Stewardship's Causefinder to discover organisations working in the area of Justice & Human Rights. Subscribe to their news bulletins or social media to keep yourself informed year round
  • Consider making a personal or community gift to a charity that supports persecuted Christians
