Royal Rangers UK: Equipping the next generation

Royal Rangers is a practical, discipleship-based ministry for young people aged from five to 17. Through adventure, outdoor skills and mentoring, they have a heart to help young people grow mentally, physically, socially and spiritually.

“For almost nine years we have been reshaping to be more relevant for today’s generation,” said Leann Downes, Assistant National Leader of Royal Rangers. “We wanted to become more adaptable for outreach and easier for churches to launch. But our mission is clear and has never changed: to evangelise, equip and empower the next generation.”

While praying for direction, Royal Rangers’ leaders were introduced to Stewardship through a couple in their church who run a trust and had themselves been blessed and supported by Stewardship in the past.

This couple were now in a position to financially support the work of Royal Rangers. Their encouragement was crucial for the Royal Rangers team in a time of change, confirming that God was opening the door to a new season. The process gave them confidence and the endorsement of the trust helped them step forward with clarity and peace.

Almost immediately, they saw growth: a new outpost is now preparing to launch, plans are underway for the first national camp in many years and they are training young leaders who once took part as children. These are exciting signs of momentum, and with Stewardship’s support the finances are in place so that young people from all backgrounds can take part. Interest is growing, with several more churches exploring how they can join the adventure.

“Every child and young person should have the chance to know Jesus, discover their potential and belong to a community where they are encouraged to thrive,” said Leann. “In a time when many young people feel isolated, we want to offer belonging, purpose, and hope.”

With God’s help, and in partnership with Stewardship, churches and supporters, Royal Rangers is advancing confidently as a tool to help the church reach this generation and future generations for Christ.
