Christian giving made simple: How a Donor Advised Fund shaped one family’s journey

One family shares how they use their corporate Donor Advised Fund account to support their giving.

We are grateful to Richard for sharing with us how the Stewardship Donor Advised Fund account has helped his family on their giving journey.

"We have supported a number of ministries on a personal level for many years. When we did the sums and saw just how effective giving was from pre-tax and pre-salary company funds, it just made a lot more sense to move from an individual to a corporate Donor Advised Fund account.

The Lord also blessed us with a particular windfall that followed words we had received from Luke 5:4-11. Over the years the following verses have also had significance for us: Matthew 6:3-4; Luke 12:48; Matthew 25:14-30 (The Parable of the Talents) and Hosea 6:6. So essentially we see it as our Christian duty or a Biblical command to tithe, but even more so an important part of worshipping the Lord.

A highlight for us on our journey so far is that God has blessed us much more than we could ever give in purely monetary terms when we have followed His commands and listened to His voice.

Simplicity and anonymity of a Donor Advised Fund

We considered setting up a charitable trust but our giving was going to be through infrequent lump sums. Starting a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) account was much simpler than setting up a charitable trust, but the clinching factor was that we can give anonymously. We have been guided by Matthew 6:3-4 in this and it is an important Biblical principle to us.

We first heard about Stewardship from a friend years ago and had held an individual account for many years, so we had a high degree of trust in both the organisation and the giving platform. We appreciate the ease of being able to allocate funds to the causes we want to support.

A highlight for us on our journey so far is that God has blessed us much more than we could ever give in purely monetary terms when we have followed His commands and listened to His voice.

It is very easy to get started. So even if you just start with a small sum, the process is straightforward and your giving will flow from there."
