New Hope is a Christian charity working in Watford with people who are experiencing homelessness. We empower individuals to take positive steps away from homelessness. Through a variety of services, including street outreach, crisis accommodation, training opportunities, and longer-term accommodation, we walk alongside people every step of the way from homelessness to independent living.
We aim to provide comprehensive and effective support to people at each stage of their recovery from homelessness. Our work takes three distinct forms:
Intervention services - instant-access crisis support for people who are rough sleeping or at immediate risk of losing their home;
Recovery services - accommodation and support with a focus on rebuilding stability and tackling underlying issues that lead to homelessness such as addiction or mental health challenges;
and Prevention services - accommodation for people ready for independent living and tenancy support for people in their own homes who may be struggling with food or fuel poverty to reduce the risk of a return to rough sleeping.
In the past year:
495 people received support at a New Hope service
37 people on average per month attended the Haven drop-in for food, showers and clothes
17, 694 nights of accommodation were provided, giving 151 people a safe place to stay for at least one night
The 24/7 Emergency Helpline (the only dedicated homelessness phone service in the area) answered 714 calls from people experiencing homelessness or seeking advice.
70 people were supported in maintaining or improving their mental health through support from Cultivate, New Hopes horticultural therapy and creative wellbeing service.
