St Francis Hospital is a faith-based 500 bed hospital in rural Eastern Zambia overseen by the Anglican and Catholic church. The hospital serves the people of Katete District (population 200,000) as well as accepting referrals from the whole of Eastern Province (population 1.5 million).

We have been pleased to play our part in the NHS Scotland Global Citizenship Programme and in doing so contribute towards the achievement of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development, particularly the focus on 'Good Health & Well-Being' and 'Clean Water and Sanitation'.

Since its founding, the twinning partnership has produced a wide range of projects between the departments of the two hospitals including Maternity, Mental Health, WASH, TB Control, HIV and Sexual Health, Physiotherapy, Paediatrics, Nursing and Midwifery School, predominantly delivering skill sharing and training.

Our current main focus is the ZamBaz project that aims to raise 200,000 to provide a complete sanitation system for the hospital and its surroundings. As part of this one of our trustees, Chris Faldon plans to walk 1100km across Zambia. See the dedicated fundraising page to make a donation and see some sponsorship suggestions.
