Church
Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is a UK-wide, church-based movement offering whole-person support to people in their toughest financial storms, such as unmanageable debt, unemployment and chronic low income.
Our vision
- Transformed lives: We want to see people across the UK released from poverty, living with faith in Jesus and hope for the future.
- Thriving churches: We want to see churches that have become the beating heart of their communities, actively serving them and bringing the hope of Jesus.
- An end to UK poverty: We want to see a hope-filled society, free from poverty, with churches united to improve the lives of those facing debt and financial hardship

Our mission
Our mission is to equip local churches, so that when someone who especially needs our type of face-to-face help is up against financial crisis or vulnerability, there will be a church in their community ready to walk alongside them.
We will support each church to offer reliable, practical help; the kind of help that restores someones financial resilience and hope for the future, and introduces them to the fullness of life that Jesus offers. We do all this because no one should face debt and poverty alone.
Lives will be restored by the steadfast presence of a local church, ready to walk alongside you during the toughest financial storms.

Wendy's story:
Imagine you're in financial crisis. No matter how hard you try, you can't make sense of the letters and bills piling up in front of you. Anxiety spirals.
Your mind feels paralysed with the enormity of it all. Facing poverty is frightening enough already. For Wendy, the combination of being autistic and having ADHD meant that organising bills and paying off her debts were tasks that left her completely overwhelmed.
In Wendy's words,"I really needed someone to sit down with me, because I'd end up panicking when I looked at my bills. Lizzie introduced me to a discipleship course. I had a revelation that God loves me exactly as I am."
Wendy knew shed need in-person help to get on top of her money troubles. She had the loving support of her husband Marc and her family, but the debts still felt overwhelming.
"Other organisations that do debt help, its all online or over the phone. That makes me more flustered I needed someone there with me," said Wendy.
For Wendy, and many others in her situation, remote or online support is not enough. She needed to sit face-to-face with someone whod take the time to understand, whod walk her through the tasks she found most difficult because of her ADHD, like filling out forms and setting up Direct Debits, and who would stick by her side through the process of becoming debt free.
Here at CAP,
We know that a one-size-fits-all approach to debt help isnt the best way to meet the needs of those facing extra barriers to support.
We, like you, believe in recognising each person as a unique individual, loved by God. Our tailored, in-person support means local churches can walk alongside those who otherwise might be left disconnected.
It's not about quick fixes or one-off interventions, but rather the consistent care of walking with someone for the whole journey. And this is only possible thanks to monthly gifts from supporters like you. Today, you can restore real connection for someone who needs a steadfast friend at their side, as well as expert advice on their journey out of debt.

Across the UK, millions of people are experiencing a poverty crisis, leaving them feeling trapped, desolate and abandoned. We are Christians Against Poverty. We cannot accept a society where poverty exists. So we take action.
And we also experience the daily privilege of seeing people discover hope as they begin to work with CAP and their local church.
Tens of thousands of lives have been positively impacted through the powerful combination of practical help, restorative church communities and Jesus love.
