Story
The redevelopment of our Grade II listed chapel and community rooms marks a major milestone, rooted in over 375 years of history. This legacy underpins our plans to transform the currently unusable building into a warm, accessible, and creative space for all. A Historical Interpretation Project will help bring the chapels story - one of the oldest Baptist buildings in continuous use since 1734 - to life and connect it with the wider history of the town. The complete renovation will be undertaken in several phases and will include rerendering, lime plastering, revealing the baptistry and a new raised platform. Upgraded heating, lighting, an enlarged foyer with a glass partition and improved toilets will ensure the building meets growing community needs.
This initial project is the Welcome Home Project and will focus on making the chapel accessible and welcoming to all.
If the specified purpose fails, or excess funds are raised, these funds will be granted to the charity's general funds.
