Helping care leavers to experience belonging, connection and hope

Story

Over 13,000 young people age out of the care system each year.

Care-experienced young people are four times more likely to face mental health issues than their peers. A third become homeless less than two years after leaving care.

We're committed to empowering and supporting care leavers so they can flourish.

We piloted volunteer-based befriending to care leavers in 2019, offering long-term connection and friendship.

In this project we will:

• Review the model of care leaver befriending
• Listen to care leavers to gain their input
• Develop bespoke training for volunteers
