Celebrating one year of Personal Support Matters - stories of impact and growth

This month, we celebrate the one-year anniversary of Personal Support Matters—a Christian resource designed to help workers navigate the unique joys and challenges of raising their own support.

Just over a year ago, we gathered at Stewardship’s office at 1 Lamb’s Passage to launch the book with co-authors Myles Wilson and Claire Niclasen.

It was a blessed time of fellowship and sharing, as organisational leaders and Christian workers testified to how this resource has impacted ministries, partner teams, and the workers themselves.

Positive stories from the past year

In commemoration of the launch, we recently reached out to Claire and asked her for some of the testimonies that have come from the first year of Personal Support Matters. Claire shared the following points:

  • Dylan, from Ambassadors Football, was the first to share how Personal Support Matters had transformed his approach to support raising. Before the training, Dylan already had a growing partner team. He writes: “This book was a massive help as I started off raising support, having not attended any in-person training at the beginning this Ministry Partner Development (MPD) really helped lay the foundations and taught me strong biblical principles going into conversations confident in what I am doing and what the bible says about it. I thoroughly recommend reading this if you are starting off raising support or have been in the mission field for many years!"
  • A Christian worker in Sierra Leone shared how they are using Personal Support Matters to build their partner team, applying its principles to their local context.
  • Myles and Claire are exploring a French translation of the book.
  • They are also developing a digital version to make the resource more accessible to a global audience.

It’s amazing that Personal Support Matters is having such an impact for the Kingdom, and we believe that there is much more to come!

If you are a Christian worker living on the support of others, take heart. Whether you’re just starting out on your journey of creating and building a partner team or are well versed in inviting people to join, Personal Support Matters is for you! We would recommend that you get a copy of the book.

Get involved!

Our Support Raising Training kicks off again in less than a month on 25 February 2025. The six three-hour sessions that make up the training are based on the content of Personal Support Matters. The training is co-hosted by Claire and our Support Raising Coordinator, Omique Williams.

Join us for three insightful and profound weeks of growth in ‘Ministry Partner Development’.

Once you’ve successfully completed our training course, you are then eligible to join our monthly Support Raising Surgery. For one hour every month on a Tuesday afternoon Claire, Omique and Guy host these refresher sessions on Zoom to continue partnering with you on your support raising journey. This is a great opportunity for those facing challenges in their finances to bring any concerns or questions and receive group coaching.
