Writing your personalised thank you
When writing your message, the most important advice we can give you is to be authentically you! Use your own words and write conversationally to encourage relationship.
- Be specific (where possible) – Describe how gifts might be used and the impact they can make.
- Be warm – Let your gratitude shine through your tone and language! Consider including unique elements like a Bible verse or reflection.
Examples for churches
Your supporter has made the decision to support you because they understand the biblical importance of generosity. With their gift, they’re making an intentional investment in your ministry or your church’s heart for mission.
Make sure that your words feel personal, heartfelt and Kingdom-focused so that your donors can feel valued and connected to your church. We suggest two types of thank you approaches to get you started:
- Personal and heartfelt
'We thank God for you and your heart for giving. Your support helps us share His love through [your ministry or outreach]. May you be blessed abundantly for the seeds you’ve sown into this work.'
- Focused on mission and impact
'Thanks to your kindness, your gift can enable [broad benefit]. You are part of a community that changes lives every day and we are deeply grateful for your faith in our ministry.'
Examples for charities
Your supporter has made the decision to support your organisation because they trust you. Their gift says that they deeply care about your cause and champion the transformational work that you do.
Help donors feel truly valued and connected to your mission by expressing that they are an important part of your team. We suggest two types of thank you approaches to get you started:
- Personal and heartfelt
'Your generosity is more than a gift — it’s a lifeline. Because of your support, we can continue [general or specific work, for example, providing meals to families in need]. Thank you for standing with us and making hope possible.'
- Focused on mission and impact
'Thanks to your kindness, your gift can enable [general or specific benefit, for example, warm shelter this winter]. You are part of a community that changes lives every day and we are deeply grateful for your faith in our mission.'
When creating a thank you video:
- Choose a quiet, well-lit room and position yourself against a plain background
- Smile, look into the camera and speak 'from the heart'. Try not to rush it!
- Plan what you're going to say if this helps you
- If you're using a video, upload it to YouTube or another video sharing platform and paste the link into the video field shown here in your Account profile.
YouTube tip: You can save your video as 'unlisted' if you don't want it to show up on your channel.
