Trustees Training

Our training provides practical advice and tips for trustees of churches and Christian charities. The aim of the training sessions is to equip trustees of churches and Christian charities in the key elements of the role in a very practical way.

We offer three one-hour sessions which will take a closer look at the interaction between finance and faith and what makes for a healthy church or charity in terms of trusteeship.

Session 1: What the Role Involves

Session 2: Finance and Faith

Session 3: Pointers in Problem Areas and Q&A session

Session Overview

Session 1: What the Role Involves

The first session will look at the role and responsibilities of trustees, with a section on the interaction between trustees and the spiritual leaders. We look at who your trustees should be and what good governance should look like.

Session 2: Finance and Faith

The second session will begin by looking at the biblical framework for good financial administration. We will cover trustees’ responsibility for finance and the provision for financial controls. There will also be a review on the regulators – who they are and where they see the risks lie in churches and charities.

Session 3: Pointers in Problem Areas and Q&A session

Finally, the third session will review the areas where churches and charities are most likely (and often do) get things wrong. There will be a section on employment issues, along with the pitfalls associated with claiming gift aid. The event will finish with a Q&A session, where you can ask the panel your trustee-related questions.

“Whilst there is trustee training available in the charity sector, I haven’t found any that deals with the unique situations faced by trustees of churches and Christian charities. It’s also usually very expensive. Stewardship’s trustee training balances the spiritual and legal responsibilities of trustees, exploring both the Biblical and statutory foundations, and combining recommended good practice from both camps. It’s also very affordable and a must for anyone trying to work out their trustee role in the context of Christian ministry.”
Mike Frith, Oscar

“So grateful for all the work that you do for us and the way that you do it - we have such confidence in you as an organisation and am able to sleep better at nights knowing you guys are on our side!”
Paul Oxley, St Mark's Milton Keynes

“Excellent clarity on what it means to do God’s work in the eyes of men.”
Nigel Ward, Holy Trinity Church, Frogmore.
