Myanmar earthquake: How you can help those responding to the crisis

A catastrophic 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on 28 March, causing widespread devastation.

The scale of the humanitarian emergency is staggering: more than 17 million people have been affected, with over 9.1 million in the hardest-hit regions of Mandalay and Sagaing. Over 3,400 lives have been lost, more than 41,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed, and at least 500,000 people now lack access to life-saving healthcare.

In the face of this crisis, our trusted charity partners are on the ground, providing life-saving support. Your generosity and prayers can help meet immediate needs and bring hope to those affected.

Here’s how each partner is responding and how you can support their vital work:

Mercy Corps Europe

Mercy Corps is delivering urgent relief and standing alongside those who are suffering - especially the most vulnerable: women, children, the elderly and people with disabilities.

Since April 8, they have been providing life-saving support in southern Shan State, where 3,000 households will receive emergency cash transfers to meet their most urgent needs - food, clean water, and shelter. This is part of their larger goal to reach over 22,000 households with critical assistance.

Mercy Corps Europe is currently focused on:
•    Scaling up cash assistance in Sagaing and Mandalay to enable families to purchase essentials like food, hygiene kits, and shelter materials.
•    Conducting Emergency Market Mapping and Analysis to guide effective early recovery and ensure our interventions restore local markets and build resilience for the future.

Open Doors

The devastating earthquake in Myanmar comes after years of conflict and persecution have already made the country a very difficult place for followers of Jesus. Right now, Open Doors is helping Christians directly affected by the earthquake with emergency aid to survive, as well as long-term support.

Partners Relief and Development

Partners Relief and Development has been in Myanmar since 1994, focusing its relief efforts at Inle Lake, a former tourist spot south of Mandalay. The team is on the ground with their local partners, conducting assessments and delivering relief supplies; focusing on food, water and shelter for communities that were already grappling with the impacts of conflict.

Samaritans Purse

Samaritan’s Purse is providing life-saving medical care and emergency relief following the deadly earthquake. Their Disaster Assistance Response Team is on the ground, and an Emergency Field Hospital—with operating theatres, inpatient wards and essential supplies—has been airlifted to Myanmar. Working alongside local churches and authorities, they are also distributing shelter materials, clean water systems and hygiene kits to families who have lost everything.

Street Child

Street Child is working alongside its local partner, Ashoka, to provide urgent relief to communities devastated by the earthquake in Myanmar. Ashoka is actively responding on the ground, delivering essential support to those affected. Street Child is also drawing on the expertise of its teams in Nepal, who bring valuable experience from previous earthquake responses. For the next 10 days, 100% of donations to their Rapid Response Fund will go directly to Ashoka to support immediate relief efforts.
