More than money: a generous everyday life

When we talk about generosity, most of us instinctively think about money.

Giving, after all, is often framed around what comes out of our wallets. But God’s vision for generosity is far bigger and often far simpler.

Generosity begins not with a bank balance but with a heart that is willing.

The gifts already in your hands

In 1 Peter 4:10, we’re reminded that “each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” That verse does not start with money. It starts with whatever gift you have been given.

  • Your gift might be time to listen
  • It might be a practical skill you can lend
  • It might simply be your presence with someone who is lonely

The beauty of everyday generosity is that it grows out of what we already carry.

The smallest things leave the deepest marks

Think about the people who have left an impression on your life. Was it always the big gestures, the large donations or the costly gifts? Or was it often something smaller? A word of encouragement. A meal when you needed it. Someone turning up when you thought no one noticed.

God’s grace flows through these small moments. They may not look spectacular but they often leave the deepest mark.

A rhythm of living generously

Summer often gives us space to slow down and notice the world around us. As we step into autumn this is a good moment to ask: where is God inviting me to practise generosity beyond my finances?

  • Could you give a little time to a neighbour or friend who needs company?
  • Could you share a skill or experience to bless someone else?
  • Could you simply be available, when so much of life pushes us to rush on?

These are the everyday habits that form a generous life. And as we will explore in the months ahead, intentional financial generosity often grows best out of this same posture. A willing heart is the starting place for both.

Looking ahead to 40acts 2026

Over the next few weeks we will be sharing how you can prepare for Harvest and giving you an early look at what is coming for 40acts 2026. But for now, start with this: choose one way to give over the next week that does not involve money, and watch how God’s grace flows through it.
