Each of us gives differently. Some of us give quickly and instinctively when we see a need. Others plan carefully, taking time to understand the impact. Some give because of strong relationships, while others give out of deep theological conviction.

The Generosity Report 2026 shows that these patterns aren’t random. In fact, distinct giving personas are emerging for a reason. Each one of us is shaped by our own individual decisions, but our motivations, habits, life stage and discipleship journeys also cross over into more common spaces.

Understanding your giving persona isn’t about putting you in a box. It’s about recognising the unique way God has wired you for generosity and discovering how you can grow that gift with joy and purpose, and connect with others like you.

Why your giving style matters

Generosity is one of the most deeply personal parts of discipleship. Our latest report shows that Christians are becoming more intentional in how they give, with trust, transparency and relationship shaping many giving decisions.

Knowing why you give the way you do can help you:

  • give with greater joy and clarity
  • recognise what motivates you, and what holds you back
  • find new ways to be generous that fit who you are
  • build regular habits that sustain your favourite causes

So… which persona sounds most like you?

The five giving personas

1. The impact-driven giver

You love knowing your giving makes a real difference. You look for clear outcomes, thoughtful stewardship and practical results. For you, generosity is a way of joining in with mission and justice that you can’t carry out yourself.

You are motivated by:

  • seeing tangible change
  • clear reporting and responsible use of resources
  • strong governance and transparency

You grow when you:

  • receive regular updates
  • understand the outcomes of your giving
  • support causes with clear plans and accountability

2. The relationship-driven giver

For you, generosity is rooted in connection. You love giving when you feel personally linked to a person, team or story. When someone you trust introduces a cause, you’re there.

You are motivated by:

  • people, stories and shared purpose
  • giving alongside friends, family or your church
  • seeing how generosity builds community

You grow when you:

  • hear testimonies from people you’ve supported
  • see your giving create relational impact
  • feel part of a wider movement of generosity

3. The theology-driven giver

Your giving flows from Scripture, conviction and worship. You see generosity as obedience and discipleship – part of honouring God with what He has entrusted to you.

You are motivated by:

  • biblical teaching
  • stewarding resources faithfully
  • supporting Gospel-centred ministry

You grow when you:

  • understand how giving advances the Kingdom
  • see finances handled with integrity and clarity
  • hear teaching that deepens your view of generosity

4. The younger giver (18–late 20s)

You may be early in your earning journey, but your generosity is thoughtful, sacrificial and often shaped by the examples around you. You care deeply about transparency, purpose and real people.

You are motivated by:

  • authenticity and trust
  • causes with clear, human stories
  • teaching that connects faith and finances

You grow when you:

  • start small, but stay consistent
  • hear open, honest communication about impact
  • have simple tools to help you give regularly

5. The older giver

You give from a lifetime of faith and experience. You’ve seen God’s faithfulness and want to steward resources wisely for Kingdom impact. You’re often drawn to long-term projects, legacies and strategic giving.

You are motivated by:

  • wisdom, stewardship and responsibility
  • clear governance and accountability
  • opportunities to invest deeply in mission

You grow when you:

  • receive trusted insight about needs and opportunities
  • can give in planned, tax-efficient ways
  • see long-term fruit from your generosity

So… which persona are you?

You might see yourself strongly in one of these personas, or recognise elements of several. Many people naturally blend more than one persona as life stages, income and discipleship evolve.

What’s encouraging is this: every persona is a beautiful expression of Christian generosity.

What matters most is how your giving persona feeds into a generous lifestyle that becomes an act of joy, worship and partnership in God’s work.

A simple next step: build your generosity rhythm

Wherever you find yourself, building a regular habit of generosity can help you give with purpose and peace, especially in a world where needs and appeals can feel overwhelming.

The Stewardship Giving Account is a simple way to:

  • set aside generosity as part of your monthly rhythm
  • support the causes you care about
  • plan ahead for future giving opportunities
  • grow intentional and joyful generosity over time

If you’d like to take a step towards a more purposeful giving life, a Giving Account can help you shape that rhythm in a way that reflects your calling and your persona.
