Laura was a young mum parenting her little boy, Jacob, alone. Money was tight and when his bed broke, there was no money to replace it.
When they were referred to Totcycle, the baby bank run by the Princess Project, they’d been sharing a bed for a month or so.
One of our supporters had offered us a second-hand cot bed. I contacted them to say thank you and told them about Laura and Jacob’s situation. A short time later, this lovely lady phoned me back.
“My husband and I have been thinking: we would really like to buy a new bed for this family instead.”
So they did, along with a set of dinosaur bedding to go with it.
When I delivered the beautiful new bed, Jacob answered the door wearing dinosaur wellies. Neither the generous donor nor I had known that dinosaurs were his absolute favourite thing, but his Father God absolutely did. Jacob jumped in as soon as the bed was assembled, still in his wellies and all smiles and laughter.
“This is the best bed ever!” he giggled.
Laura was absolutely blown away that a stranger would do this for them. We were able to tell her how precious and loved she was, not just by the donor and the Princess Project but by God, whose hand had been at work throughout.
One of the things I find amazing about God is that although He can (and frequently does) provide directly for His children, a lot of the time God chooses to work in partnership with us. When we act on God’s gentle prompts, they bless not only the recipient but also us as the giver, reminding us of our small part in His amazing plans. And those plans are more perfect than anything we could come up with on our own – right down to the last dinosaur.
