Amid talk of quiet revivals and spiritual openness, the majority of young adults in the UK remain distracted, dissatisfied and isolated.
Reaching them with the Gospel in a way that connects with their outlook and shows Jesus to be real, relevant and relatable, when most have next to no understanding of the Bible or a Christian worldview, is challenging.
They exist in a middle space: hungry, but not knowing where the table is. Open, but equally as open to manifesting and magic as they are to hearing about Jesus. Interested, but not asking “Is this true?” but rather “Does this work?”.
So, two years ago, we started work on The Fount Sessions: a five-part documentary film series telling stories of the impact of Jesus on the lives of a diverse group of His followers.
Each life transformed demonstrates the daily power of Jesus, His relevance and presence in the lives of His people. Each story is a contemporary testimony, told alongside an encounter with Jesus in John’s Gospel. Shot and produced with the media habits of young adults in mind, The Fount Sessions was designed to be your next best step in evangelistic conversations with your mates from football or young adults at church.
We were excited. Properly excited. And as we worked, God provided time and time again, by bringing the right cast members, supplying the resources required for pre-production and confirming in countless ways that this was a work to which He was calling us.
But with the series written, a full cast assembled and a clear creative vision ready to take shape as the cameras rolled, we found ourselves £10,000 short.
The temptation, of course, was to allow frustration to take root. Yet we found ourselves recalling the many ways the Lord had already provided. These ‘Ebenezer’ moments reminded us that His past faithfulness was grounds for continued trust in His future provision.
So, we prayed. And we waited.
Several weeks later, quite unexpectedly, a friend contacted us. He said he felt God was nudging him to give us £10,000, which was the precise amount we lacked and exactly what was required to commence filming.
You can imagine the emotional cocktail of equal parts joy and astonishment that greeted the message. God had not merely met our need; He had graciously reminded us that The Fount Sessions was His project long before it was ours. Our prayer is that He will use it for the salvation of many and the glory of His name.
As you engage with people today over food in the 40acts challenge, you, too, are ‘meeting in the middle’ if they don’t yet know Jesus. Please be encouraged that, like our project, God is even more invested in it than you are, and will provide everything you need.

Reflect
‘When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.’
Luke 19:5-6
Pray
- Pray for people who often get overlooked, that they would be seen, noticed and welcomed.
- Ask God to help you take the first step in inviting someone to share time with you.
- Thank Him that Jesus reaches out to us first and always makes room for us in His presence.
Act
A generosity challenge for you to complete today:
Invite someone to lunch or coffee today – especially if they’re usually left out. Sit down, slow down, share time. Hospitality is generosity with a seat at the table. |
