For over a century, since 1906, Stewardship has been providing guidance, inspiration and practical tools for people to receive joyfully, give generously and steward their resources responsibly.
As Christians we are commanded to ‘Love our Neighbour’ but how can you do this while isolated at home?
It may surprise you to hear that I believe we are loving our neighbour more than ever in these times. Let me give you three examples:
Fresh from our success of raising and distributing nearly £5 million in just 100 days to Christian charities and churches serving people most affected by Covid-19 in the UK, we are now launching a Global Rapid Response Campaign.
Whilst most of what we do is currently unaffected we have rapidly made changes to how we operate to ensure that we are being good stewards, that we aid the national effort to bring this pandemic under control, and that we prioritise getting financial and practical support to where it is most needed.
Although “stewardship” sounds like a bible word, it isn’t. But it is a bible concept. The concept is twofold – there’s stewardship of what’s been given particularly to you and there’s stewardship of everything else. Stewardship is the way we look after things – not the way we own things. We are stewards, or trustees, or custodians – of something that belongs to someone else but which has been put into our charge. Stewards are not owners, they are guardians.
My wife is a good global citizen. She’s compassionate and well informed, makes sacrifices to her bank balance in the pursuit of justice, and is always in it for the long haul. In short, Emma’s exactly the kind of supporter that charities want.
After 9 years at Stewardship, the last 7 leading the charity, Michael O’Neill has decided to leave his role as Chief Executive this summer to pursue a role that allows him to return his family to his native United States.
Last month we invited you to tell us more about you, your experience of Stewardship and what you love and love a little bit less about your giving account.
