Change again? The 2018 Annual Return

Seemingly in every aspect of charity governance, regulators are looking for greater professionalism and demanding more information. Following proposals by the Charity Commission towards the end of 2017 it appears that the charity annual return for 2018 (AR18) is no different.  The return, which will apply to charities with an accounting period starting on or after 1 January 2018, will build on the current return delving deeper into a number of areas.

Churches Exception from Registration - extended to 31 March 2014

Readers of this blog will know that some, but not all, churches must register as a charity with the relevant charity regulator (the Charity Commission in England and Wales, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator in Scotland, and shortly, the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland).

Last month the Charity Commission reported that new independent research commissioned by them has found that charities need to do more to describe how people benefit from their work. Many charities are missing out on the opportunity to explain, through their reporting on public benefit, how their work has a positive impact on their beneficiaries.
