What our clients say about us: Vince White, Church Administration Manager at Monyhull Church

By Bethan Walker | 2 March 2015

"In 1989 when our church was founded, the original members met in the front room of one of our leaders. Numbers were much higher than anticipated. God was clearly moving and we realised we’d need more appropriate, larger premises.

We moved to a room in a local women’s hospital, but when that closed in 1995, we moved again and met in a local school. At that time we became aware of a Victorian chapel on the site of an old mental hospital being closed for redevelopment. After many amazing answers to prayer, we bought the chapel for £1.00! That had to be God at work.

We ran our Sunday school, kids and youth clubs in portacabins and saw the development of the site as an important factor in helping us to build our gospel work and reach out into the local community.

After months of discussion and prayer, we decided to build a multi-functional annexe to the existing building.
However, it was clear that we were likely to be facing a shortfall of about £300,000 on the build cost of about £1.2 million. That was where Stewardship came in again, thanks to their mortgage service.

We considered approaching mainstream banks to assist with funding the shortfall. But with the credit crunch biting, in some ways, we couldn’t have chosen a worse time to try to raise finance.

Stewardship were so easy to deal with and so incredibly helpful. The team had a real understanding of where we were and what we were trying to achieve. Once we’d gone through everything with them, they agreed to lend us the shortfall and we were back in business.

Since opening our new annexe, it has been great to see the facilities being used in a variety of community ways. It’s been exciting to see ways in which God has opened up opportunities for us to use our new premises.

Stewardship has saved us untold amounts of hassle and time. The comprehension of what we are about, the high quality of service and the sharing of Christian values is what’s important in our eyes. Stewardship really understand how lending to a church works."
