Giving Tuesday: 5 Quick & Easy ideas for Churches

#givingtuesday gives churches a fantastic excuse to talk about generosity and practice what we preach in the lead up to Christmas.  Here are five quick and easy ideas to help you get started - we'd love to read your own ideas in the comments below!

  1. Deliver care packages to local community groups on 1st December (or any other time that week). Even a little box of chocolates and carefully written thank you will mean the world.  Better still, why not invite them along to your carol services to celebrate their work publicly.
  2. Set up an #unselfie photobooth after your Sunday service (and encourage members to share them from 8am on 1st December). Download our free #Unselfie template to help you get started. If members aren't on social media then check first before sharing them on your church twitter and facebook during #givingtuesday. Tag them @40acts and we'll retweet the best!
  3. Commit to a generous 2016 as a church - start by signing up to join us for 40acts of generosity during Lent 2016 (and make sure you grab all the free resources and sermon notes to go with it!).  If you want to get really serious about giving as a church you could also build Seasons of Giving into your small/home group plans for 2016.
  4. Share your generosity stories - we all love a good yarn and we've found that stories of godly giving and generous living are inspirational to those inside and outside of the church alike. Try these for some inspiration and then be brave and share your own on Giving Tuesday.
  5. Celebrate your giving - make sure you take time before the end of the year to reflect on the last 12 months and thank others for their generosity.
