Gift Aid Claims - use an old R68 Claim Form at your peril!

By Kevin Russell | 1 June 2012 | Comments (9)

In our last Legal Eagle e mail bulletin, we highlighted the need for churches and charities to use the most up to date Gift Aid claim form, the R68(i) in order to ensure that your Gift Aid claim is repaid as quickly as possible.

HMRC have today gone further by announcing that they will no longer accept the older forms that some charities are still using.

The R68(i) which has been in use for fifteen months now, replaced all previous versions of the form. A copy of the form and guidance notes can be found via this page.

From next week, when HMRC receives a repayment claim on an old style form they will contact you to:

  • remind you that you need to use the current form
  • explain that on this occasion HMRC have processed your current claim (however, they may take their time over this)
  • explain that HMRC will return any future repayment claims submitted on an old style form without processing them.

The new R68(i) claim form, which is semi automated and is completed on screen, is designed to reduce errors by calculating the correct amount of Gift Aid you can claim using the dates and amounts you enter.

I want to use the new form R68(i) but am prevented from doing so because there is no facility within the "Payment Details" section for bank account details as on the old form. We have our tax repayments paid directly into our bank account and completion of the old style R68 allows us to do this.
Have you any suggestion please as to how we can get round this problem with the R68(i).

Many thanks,

Derek,
At least you seem to have brought up the form to complete! Despite downloading Adobe
Reader all I get is a 'Please Wait' window. Have tried Google and Chrome avenues without
success. Will be contacting HMRC direct to see if this is a general problem or whether they
can send out the form for physical completion. Will also mention the Payment problem.

I am trying to use the new form but like Michael Hill cannot open the new form. It just hangs with the "Please wait" message despite me having the latest Adobe Acrobat on my PC.

I have used Google Chrome and will now try Firefox and Internet Explorer.

I have succeeded using Internet Explorer 9 - it downloaded the form quickly and everything worked fine.

Also, Old R68 (i) form users they will need to contact HMRC and give them their bank details which are then held on record and used to transfer the payment directly into their registered bank account. You only need to do this once.

Hope this helps.

i have been unsuccessful in trying to down load the R 68 form since the beginning of last week. Although i have Abode Reader (latest) installed, i receive a message to wait, and after waiting and waiting with NO success, I retried several times.
Any suggestions or ways to progress?
