Pakistan flood appeal

Stewardship is sending grants to recipients supporting the relief effort. You can partner with us in giving.

The situation in Pakistan

Heavy monsoon rains have resulted in some of the worst flooding Pakistan has ever faced; homes, roads, bridges, crops, and livelihoods have been destroyed. Millions of people have already been affected and for communities stranded with no health care and little clean drinking water the flooding is just the beginning of the problems.

Aid agencies are currently struggling to respond to the immediate needs; shelter, food and water for the millions left homeless. They are also having to contend with the rising risk of waterborne diseases before they can begin the work of rebuilding what has been broken.

What is being done by some of the organisations we support?

Tearfund are working tirelessly to distribute much needed aid packages. Emergency packages include food, health and hygiene kits, and tarpaulins for emergency shelter.

Christian Aid has already distributed hundreds of tons of food. They continue to help with the emergency efforts and are making plans to support local businesses to recover and grow crops once more.

The Red Cross are distributing essential supplies to millions of Pakistanis. They are assessing both the immediate emergency assistance which will be needed for at least the next six months, as well as the substantial longer-term assistance to support recovery in the coming years.

World Vision are working with women and children, who are the most vulnerable groups in emergencies. Many are already living in unhygienic and dangerous conditions, on roads, rooftops and other high grounds. They are assisting the displaced with food, shelter and medical care.
Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) are a coalition of 12 charities. They are coordinating efforts to respond to the immediate needs and the emerging redevelopment work in the most effective and efficient ways.

Pray for Pakistan

Many roads and bridges have been destroyed. Pray that this will not hinder the distribution of aid and that even the furthest isolated communities would receive the food and help that they need.

Pray that God would be with the Pakistan authorities as they make difficult decisions over the coming days, weeks and month.

Pray for the good health of survivors. Pray especially that the threat of waterborne diseases will not materialise.

Pray for all those affected. Pray that even at this time they would know God’s love and hope.
