Japan earthquake and tsunami appeal

Stewardship is sending grants to recipients supporting the relief effort. You can partner with us in giving.

The situation in Japan

The 7th largest earthquake in recorded history struck Japan on March 11, 2011, with a magnitude of 9.0 on the richter scale. The resulting tsunami devastated much of the North-East coast, with waves over 7 metres high leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. In addition, several nuclear reactors have exploded, giving rise to concerns about a potential nuclear meltdown resulting in widespread radiation threats.

At the time of writing, there are an estimated 25,000 dead. On April 7th, 2011 a second earthquake shook the region.

Pray for Japan

Thousands have died or are confirmed missing. Pray for families of the victims, for the emergency services who are still searching for survivors, and for all those working to avert further nuclear crisis.

Pray for aid workers on the ground in Japan, and for the organisations raising support here in the UK.

Pray for the Japanese government - for the strength and wisdom needed to rebuild entire towns and livelihoods.

Pray for all those affected. Pray that even at this time they would know God’s love and hope.
