mission and vision unpacked

Generosity is at the heart of all we do, all we hope for and all we hold dear. We believe in its power and work at all times to champion it wherever generosity is found.

We believe that there is more than one sort of generosity. At Stewardship we are passionate about doing more than adding a few more pence onto the tip at the end of the meal. We see generosity as a radical, powerful and imperative value – one that is desperately needed today. When generosity becomes about giving what’s right, rather than what’s left over, it has the power to significantly transform lifestyle. It alters how we see the resources that are at our disposal, even down the point of challenging the traditional sense of ownership we hold over ‘our’ money, ‘our’ possessions and ‘our’ resources. True generosity demands that we look out, engage with the word, our eyes open a little wider, always returning to us with the question ‘what can I do about this?’

Why do we do it?

Because generosity is part of our God-scripted DNA. Because we were not made to live in hoarded isolation. Because when we give, something happens not only to the recipient, but in the life of the giver as well.

So Stewardship deals in the tools that help to construct the kingdom of God, nothing less.

cheerleading generosity

We encourage Christians to exercise their generosity in two main ways. Donors benefit from being able to plan and control their giving with our tax-effective giving services, while churches, charities, Christian workers and bible college students are able to set up accounts that allow supporters to add their funds. We also provide support and training, and at every stage we add value to both giver and recipient by increasing efficiency, upgrading effectiveness and releasing those involved from the burden and risk of such work.

We also promote biblical principles of Christian stewardship through publications, events, conferences and widespread collaboration with others. At its core we promote an understanding and practice of stewardship that sees it less as a single act, occasionally repeated, but as a lifestyle and form of discipleship.

legal and financial governance

We educate, train, inform hundreds of churches and charities each year, and offer a range of tailored services to suit a wide range of needs. From charity formation and mortgages to payroll and accountancy, we aim to provide professional quality services, at reasonable cost, with the added benefit of a shared understanding of our clients’ spiritual ethos and calling.

Clients see us as a trusted organisation, genuinely seeking their best interests. We work collaboratively, partnering strategically with others, at all times aiming to seek first the Kingdom of God. All of us, whether our histories are in accountancy or law, church leadership or charity work, are committed to doing all we can to nurturing the transformation that flows from generosity.

Opening up to the power of generosity transforms the life of the giver. We’ve seen it happen in countless others, and it never fails to inspire.

Yet our view of transformation goes further than the giver. We work hard to support the recipients of our funds, offering training and support to raise standards across the board.

There’s one final layer to all this transformation; the sort that takes place in the lives of those who are on the receiving end of all this work. The ultimate beneficiaries – nurtured, cared for and helped by our recipients – tell their own stories of transformation from across the world.

There are plenty of examples of the value of good financial management and generosity. We particularly admire the character of Barnabas. As ‘the encourager’ (Acts 4:36), Barnabas demonstrated true generosity in his giving (Acts 4:37) as well as a talent for nurturing strategic networks of people (Acts 9:27, Acts 11:25-26). He was trusted with gifts and was utterly reliable in passing them on to the intended recipients (Acts 11:30). It’s not hard to see why we’re such a fan.
