help! I'm a trustee

Leadership in the local church, lay and ordained, must marry being a worshipping, missional community with  good governance under the law. Failures of governance risks derailing ministry.

Many church leadership teams are unaware, unsure or fearful of their role as trustees. It can seem a distraction from spiritual things and tensions can arise when spiritual leadership and trusteeship are two separate bodies.

Help! I'm a trustee (get me out of here!) is a very basic introduction to the role and responsibilities of a trustee. Run as 90 minute or longer half day session subjects include:

  • biblical reflection on the governance responsibilities of leaders
  • good governance and the donor process
  • the legal framework of governance
  • accounting, charity law and the 'SORP'
  • fund accounting
  • duty of care, liability and trustee payments

"Stewardship provided an excellent trainer who imparted information with clarity and confidence and helpfully illustrated the sessions from his own experience and understanding. All feedback has been overwhelmingly positive" (Rev Graham Thompson, Chair of East Anglia District of the Methodist Church)
