course overview
The core bible studies are summarised below. Worksheets begun in the study can be used for personal reflection along with optional reading before or after the study.
- Session 1: A game of 'Money Ludo' gets people talking easily and sets the theme for the course. The story of the rich ruler (Luke 18) explores money and discipleship and how giving helps break the chains of materialism. Worksheets explore learning our money stories and we read Oscar Wilde's moving story, The Selfish Giant.
- Session 2: The parable of the rich fool (Luke 12) and the theme of winter in the giant's garden opens up discussion on what makes it hard to give and how giving declares God's ownership of all we have.
- Session 3: Zacchaeus (Luke 19) shows how generosity and financial integrity are at hallmarks of discipleship and the imagery of spring in the giant's garden helps explore how grace unlocks generosity.
- Session 4 The parable of the shrewd manager (Luke 16) challenges us to manage money well and in the light of eternity. The theme of summer asks, what does good giving look like and what work is needed for it to flourish.
Personal reflection: after the group ends the theme of autumn is a chance for some quiet individual reflection on changes we can make to grow in the grace of giving and use money in the light of eternity.
