Personal Budget Coach
The aim of this role of Personal Budget Coach is to help people get control of their finances by making a realistic budget. Budget Coaches work within their church and local community with those who
may be in debt, who want to manage their money better or make their money work for them and for the kingdom of God.
- A Budget Coach works in a personal capacity as a friend not a debt professional. You might be assisting a church member referred by your pastor for personal, confidential support, a friend or family member or someone from the local community if the church has this important ministry.
- The task is to prepare a simple but effective household budget. Budgeting is certainly the first step for anyone in debt but a budget is a vital tool for everyone who wants to be in control of their money.
- You are there as a coach, helping people to take the steps they need to take, not doing it for them. There are no experts, just people who have been this way before.
- Important! A Personal Budget Coach is not a debt advisor and cannot offer advice. The role helps people get their financial information in order, provides support and refers to specialist agencies when this is needed.
The role of Personal Budget Coach is tremendously important. In fact we always encourage each and every volunteer to undertake the training to be a Personal Budget Coach. You may feel that you could never sit with anyone to prepare a budget and that is fine; there is no pressure. But the training will help you understand what budgeting is all about, why it is important and how to do it.
