What is a church Money Ministry?
A growing number of churches are developing small teams of volunteers to address the issues of spiraling personal debt, the need for good money management, preventative education and a biblical perspective on how we relate to money and possessions. The key features of a Money Ministry are as follows:
- A Money Ministry is a quick, effective and flexible response to money related issues. It does not carry the financial overheads of a debt counselling centre.
- Money MInistry teams can be established in a single church or within a small group of local churches in a geographical area.
- The distinctive role of Personal Budget Coach is at the heart of a Money Ministry. Team members are trained as budget coaches to assist in developing a realistic budget
- This ministry does not normally offer specialist debt advice but signposts to local sources of help when necessary. However, a trained and indemnified specialist debt advisor may be part of a developed Money Ministry.
- A Money Ministry can have an inward and outward focus, addressing pastoral needs around money in both church and in the local community.
- Teams often discover a range of complementary skills. Some will be comfortable with speaking and presenting, others will have a heart for community work while others are most happy with a background administrative and awareness raising role.
Stewardship Money provides training, advice and assistance in establishing a Money MInistry. Contact Tony Cunliffe (0161 281 1536) to talk more about how a Money MInistry can serve your church and local community.
