How can my church help?
Debt and money worries are found in all parts of our society and that includes the church. Don't assume a wealthy church or community has no debt problems! Establishing a debt advice centre is an important and rewarding ministry but there are also other ways a church can get involved with money issues.
- Read through our briefing paper The Debt Sentence: How churches can Help which sets out the different ways debt can be addressed in your church and community.
- Contact us for a chat or arrange a special meeting
- Host our introductory seminar for churches, How Can the Church Help People in Debt? This is often done in collaboration with other local churches.
- Our volunteer role of Personal Budget Coach enables a swift start for a debt ministry which complements specialist debt advice and enriches the service of a general advice centre. Contact Tony Cunliffe to talk about local Money Ministry teams.
- Some churches run more general advice centres which profile the money problem, offer personal support and signpost people to professional debt help.
- Stewardship can provide practical training as well as workshops from a biblical perspective on the pressures of materialism, money and debt issues.
- We can also provide generalist training which provides an overview of the debt process or point people to training opportunities from our partner charity, Credit Action.
