Stewardship raises awareness of Overseas Mission work hit by falling pound...

The falling value of the pound is significantly reducing the value of donations made in UK Sterling destined for workers overseas.

While supporters here in the UK may still be giving the same amount, those receiving gifts overseas are likely to be suffering a shortfall and may be embarrassed to request further financial support to make up the difference.

For example, in Japan, the £1 they had in their pocket a year ago was worth only 62p last month, that is equivalent to a 38% pay cut for a missionary!

If you are supporting individuals and organisations overseas, are you using your Sovereign Account to make these gifts as tax-effective as possible?  Are you in a position to review your giving and increase it at this time?  How about making or pledging your support in the local currency of the individual to counteract the effects of fluctuating currency values?

Many are not aware of these issues and its impact on overseas mission.  Why not email this article to your Church for publication in their next monthly magazine or weekly newsletter?  Please click here for a text only version of the article.
